Book 1     Welcome to my homepage!    Book 2

I am the Dyslexia Therapist for Leakey ISD.  Dyslexic

students are currently being served in ROOM 2001.  The

program is based on the Orton-Gillingham model of Basic

Language Skills.  It is an explicit, structured, systematic,

cumulative and multi-sensory program designed to

"re-train" the brain to think of language and reading

differently.  If you suspect your child may be struggling

with dyslexia, contact your child's teacher.  We will

investigate dyslexia tendencies first through screening and

then through more intensive assessment if needed.  Please

feel free to contact Jen Harwood at Leakey ISD.

Morterboard                  Education                Diploma

I have been working with children who have learning

disabilities since 2000.   I am a graduate from the University of

Texas at Austin where I received my bachelors of social work

degree.  I practiced social work for a few years before realizing

that teaching had my heart.  I returned to school to acquire

my teaching certificate and have been teaching ever since.

In 2007 the opportunity to train as a dyslexia

therapist presented itself, and I readily accepted the

challenge. Identifying and teaching dyslexics to read is now

my passion.

                               Biographical Information

I grew up in Taylor, TX, home of the fighting ducks. :)  After

high school I moved with my parents to Jarrell, TX, where my

mom and dad have a small farm.  Over the years before I knew

I wanted to teach, I worked as a social worker and in the

insurance business.  It didn't take me too long to discover

teaching was for me.  I taught Special Education for five years

in Georgetown, TX, and then dyslexia starting my sixth year

of teaching.  My teaching focus is primarily with dyslexic students;

however, I also work with students with other learning difficulties.

I've truly loved every minute of the time I've had as a teacher and now

therapist.  I'm married to John Harwood.  We have three children

(Sadie-15, William-9, and Aden-8).
