Twenty-eight juniors took the ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude and Battery tests) on Thursday, Nov 12th. This vocational test is offered free to each school district. Many people think this is just a test to see if you qualify for the military, but that's not the case; that's just one option. The ASVAB consists of eight short tests that help students identify their skills in a variety of areas. Students will receive scores in a few weeks. These scores tell current strengths in verbal, math, and science and technical skills. Career planning tools are available online. These allow students to: --Consider skills that were developed outside of school --Assess what they are looking for in an occupation --Develop "next steps" for realizing their tentative career choices --Evaluate their current program of study and consider courses that would enhance their career. Students can use the website to expolore occupations. Research has shown that students who participate in the ASVAB program experience less career indecision and consider their career options more carefully.
