Hugh Jackson Brown Jr. said, "The best preparation for tomorrow is doing your best today", and parents can help their children do their best by trying a few of these simple things at home.
1--Follow a routine at home. This will prepare your youngster to follow a schedule at school.
2--Promote independence--Make you child responsible for organizing his binder, finding his lost glasses etc, completing a chore etc...
3--Recognize effort--Praise your child for trying. For example, if he has been struggling with division, you might tell him, "You worked hard this week and got most of the problems right. Good job!"
Most importantly-- Have your elementary student set some short term goals.
Ask your child to write ideas on a separate sheet of paper and draw a picture to go along with it.
Let him/her cover a cereal box with construction paper and label it "My Goals."
Suggest that he/ she put ideas in box during year and open at end of school year to see which ones were met.
These are just a few ideas to help our students be successful.
